Portsmouth fail with opening offer for Monaco's Menez

Portsmouth have failed in a bid for AS Monaco midfielder Jeremy Menez.
The News of the World says Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is believed to have bid around £9m, but the French club say they would rather loan him out than sell on the cheap.
Playmaker Menez, 21, was tracked by Manchester United as a teenager although a recurring knee injury severely disrupted his progress.
Pompey will wait until Menez recovers fully from close-season groin surgery before a second bid.
